The Katsina State Government has declared Friday, May 29, 2026, a work-free day for all public sector workers in the state as part of the Eid el-Kabir celebrations.
The announcement was made in a statement shared on X by Mustapha Sama’ila Ingawa, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Strategy to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
The statement, which was reportedly signed by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, explained that the decision was taken to extend the Eid holiday period and allow residents to fully celebrate the festival with their loved ones.
According to the state government, the extra holiday recognises the importance of Eid el-Kabir to the people of Katsina and gives workers more time to mark the occasion with their families.
The development comes after the federal government had earlier declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays nationwide for the Eid celebrations.
Governor Radda, in the statement, wished residents a peaceful and fulfilling Eid celebration and urged them to observe safety measures during the festivities.
He also encouraged citizens to use the period to pray for peace, unity and stability in Katsina State and across Nigeria.
The statement further reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare of workers and the wellbeing of residents during the festive season.
The Katsina government concluded by extending Eid el-Kabir greetings to all Muslims in the state and beyond.
