Tragedy has struck Nigerian football following the sudden death of former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo, who passed away at the age of 40 after collapsing during a routine training session in Kaduna.
Incident During Training Session
The former forward reportedly slumped while playing at a primary school field in Ungwan Yelwa on Thursday, April 24, 2026.
According to reports, he had completed the first half of the session but collapsed during the second half.
Efforts to rush him to the hospital were unsuccessful, as he passed away before receiving medical attention.
Career Journey and Club History
Eneramo enjoyed a professional career that spanned 14 years. He began his journey with Lobi Stars and later played in several countries, eventually retiring in 2018 after a stint with Türk Ocağı Limasol.
Following his retirement, he returned to Kaduna, his hometown, where he lived a quiet life away from public attention.
Contributions to the Super Eagles
Between 2009 and 2011, Eneramo earned 10 caps for the Nigeria national football team, scoring three goals.
One of his most memorable moments came during the qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where his goal against Tunisia played a key role in securing Nigeria’s qualification.

Despite his contributions, he did not make the final squad for the tournament after the exit of coach Shaibu Amodu, as his successor Lars Lagerbäck omitted him from the team.
