Veteran Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli has spoken about her friendship with colleague Alexx Ekubo, sharing details of some of their final WhatsApp exchanges following his passing.
In screenshots she posted, Omoni addressed a fan’s old claim that she was involved in the breakdown of Alexx Ekubo’s 2021 engagement to model Fancy Acholonu. The fan accused her of having a secret relationship with the actor and suggested she had interfered in his relationship.
The allegation, which resurfaced in the conversation, also claimed that Omoni played a role in the cancellation of the wedding plans between Alexx Ekubo and Fancy Acholonu, urging her to allow him to settle down peacefully.
By sharing the screenshots, Omoni appeared to be addressing the long-standing rumours surrounding her relationship with the actor while also reflecting on their personal interactions over time.
Responding to the allegation at the time, Alexx seemed amused by the claim, saying, “Who be this one? It’s the dumb confidence in saying something untrue,” the late actor wrote.
Omoni also reacted in a lighthearted manner, expressing her annoyance at how quickly false stories spread online. “Like serious confidence. I kuku tire for people,” she replied.
Alexx Ekubo and Fancy Acholonu became engaged in May 2021, a moment that was widely celebrated by fans who saw them as one of Nollywood’s most admired celebrity couples at the time.
However, just about three months after the engagement, Fancy announced that their planned wedding had been called off, a development that came as a surprise to many followers of their relationship.
Later, in December 2022, the actress and model publicly returned to issue an apology to Alexx Ekubo and his family. In her statement, she acknowledged that the way she ended the relationship in the public eye caused him significant pain, and she described the experience of losing him as a form of “grief.”
