The United States authorities have published the names and photographs of 10 Nigerians currently in immigration detention and facing possible deportation from the country.
The individuals are being held at detention centres located in different parts of the US and have been linked to various alleged offences, ranging from financial crimes and identity theft to drug-related offences, assault, child cruelty and weapons possession.
Names of the 10 Nigerians facing deportation
Among those listed is Temitope Bashua, who is being held in Allenwood, Pennsylvania. He is facing allegations relating to wire fraud, identity theft and fraud.
Also detained in Allenwood is Chukwuemeka Okorocha, who is listed in connection with allegations including wire fraud, dangerous drugs, possession of a weapon and aggravated assault involving a gun. Tunde Korede, also held at the facility, faces a conspiracy-related charge.
Johnson Ogunlana, detained in White Deer, Pennsylvania, is facing allegations of fraud and identity theft.
In Texas, Ojehoro Lewis and Daniel Oworen were arrested in Conroe. Lewis is accused of cruelty towards a child, while Oworen faces a dangerous drugs charge.
Another Nigerian, Franklin Dikeocha, was arrested in Dallas, Texas, over an alleged sexual offence involving a child.
Osemudiamen Kingsley Oziegbe is being held in Louisville, Kentucky, over a wire fraud allegation. Raymond H. Ekevwo, detained in Oxford, Wisconsin, is also facing a wire fraud charge.
Chukwuemeka Chinye, who was arrested in Pollock, Louisiana, faces several allegations, including larceny from a banking-type institution, fraud, larceny, identity theft and conspiracy.
Allegations cover several categories
The cases listed by the US authorities involve different categories of alleged offences. Financial crimes appear prominently, with wire fraud and identity theft featuring in several of the cases.
Other allegations involve controlled substances, violence, weapons and offences against children.
The publication of the names and photographs forms part of efforts by US immigration authorities to identify foreign nationals being held in detention while their immigration and removal cases are processed.
The individuals remain subject to legal proceedings, and the allegations listed against them should not be treated as convictions.
