The Australian government has announced 10 public holidays scheduled across parts of the country in August 2026, covering Western Australia, the Northern Territory, New South Wales, and Queensland.
The announcement was shared on the government’s official X account, where Australians were reminded that the holidays apply only to specific states, territories, or local areas.
Residents were also advised to confirm the dates relevant to their location.
In its statement, the government said:
“Here are the public holidays around Australia for August!”
“If your state isn’t listed, you will have to wait a little longer for your next public holiday.”
Western Australia
- August 3: King’s Birthday
Northern Territory
- August 3: Picnic Day
- August 14: Borroloola Show Day
New South Wales
- August 19: Trundle Show
- August 26: Peak Hill Show
Queensland
- August 10: Royal Queensland Show
- August 10: Texas Show Holiday
- August 12: Royal Queensland Show (Ekka)
- August 14: Cunnamulla and District Show
- August 28: Gold Coast Show
Queensland has the highest number of public holidays in August, largely due to its long-standing tradition of regional agricultural and community show days.
Meanwhile, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory do not have any listed public holidays in August 2026, meaning residents in those areas will have to wait until later in the year for their next official public holiday.
