Afrobeats superstar Davido has raised concerns over an alleged attempt by soldiers to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of the state’s governorship election.
The singer expressed his frustration online in the early hours of Saturday, August 15, 2026, after claiming he received information that soldiers were planning to restrict his movement into the state.
Davido insisted that he had a constitutional right to move freely within Nigeria and warned against any attempt to stop him.
He wrote:
“I’ve been reliably informed that Soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”
The development comes after Davido travelled abroad on Friday, August 14, for a music performance.
The singer had performed at his first-ever UK festival, Davido & Friends, held at the Crystal Palace Bowl in South London, where videos circulating online showed him entertaining fans with some of his hit songs.
He was expected to return to Nigeria and travel to Osun State ahead of the governorship election.
Movement Restriction in Osun
Davido’s complaint came amid heightened security measures across Osun State ahead of the election.
The police had announced a restriction on movement throughout the state from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, as part of measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly election.
Anietie Iniedu, Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, disclosed the restriction in a statement issued on Friday.
The police also stated that only security agencies recognised and established under Nigeria’s Constitution and relevant laws were authorised to carry out security and law-enforcement duties in connection with the election.
Davido’s allegation has since drawn attention online, particularly amid the heightened security arrangements surrounding the Osun governorship poll.
