Nigerian entrepreneur and musician known on Instagram as Independent Jorji has publicly criticized veteran Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson over her reported involvement in a brand allegedly linked to the high cost of sanitary pads.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, Jorji accused the brand associated with Mercy Johnson of selling sanitary pads at around ₦25,000, describing the price as excessive and insensitive given the economic challenges many Nigerian girls currently face.
She expressed disappointment, saying she had expected the actress to align with a company that would help make sanitary products more affordable and accessible, stressing that such items are essential for women and girls.
Jorji also directed strong words at Mercy Johnson, accusing her of being out of touch with the realities faced by many young girls in Nigeria due to the cost of menstrual hygiene products.
She stated:
“Mercy, you are an embarrassment of a woman. In a country where women are struggling to get sanitary pads, you want to charge 25k for sanitary pads, something that is a necessity.”
She further challenged the actress, saying she was not afraid of any possible legal action, and insisted she stood firmly by her comments on the issue.
