Former Big Brother Naija housemate and actress Erica Nlewedim has spoken about the emotional impact of the intense online criticism she faced after leaving the reality television show.
The actress opened up about the experience during a candid interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, where she revisited her time on BBNaija, her disqualification and the difficult period that followed.
Erica recalls years of online criticism
According to Erica, the backlash she experienced did not end after she left the BBNaija house.
She revealed that she was subjected to continuous insults and negative comments online for about three years, an experience that eventually affected her emotional wellbeing.
The actress explained that the prolonged criticism became difficult to handle and eventually pushed her to seek professional help.
Erica said she started attending therapy in 2024 and credited the process with helping her deal with the impact of the experience.
Reflecting on her decision to participate in the reality show, she said:
“I’ll never go to a show like Big Brother Naija again in my life. I’m happy I did it because, of course, it changed my life money-wise, but I’m never doing it again if I’m given the opportunity. I was getting like 3 years of back-to-back insults. I had to see a therapist because of that.”
Erica rules out another BBNaija appearance
Although Erica acknowledged that participating in BBNaija brought significant financial opportunities and changed her life, she made it clear that she would not consider returning to the programme.
The actress described her decision as firm, explaining that the experience came with a personal cost that outweighed any potential benefits of appearing on the show again.
For Erica, her time on BBNaija remains an experience that transformed her career and finances, but the prolonged online hostility that followed also left a lasting impression on her.
Her revelation has shed further light on the pressures reality TV personalities can face even after leaving the spotlight, particularly when intense social media criticism continues long after the programme ends.
