Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the recent Osun State governorship election, has expressed concern over what he described as increasing attacks against members and supporters of the party following the poll.
In a statement directed at APC leaders, members and supporters across Osun, Oyebamiji claimed that incidents of violence which started before the election had become more frequent in the 24 hours after the election results were announced.
The APC candidate called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to urgently intervene and prevent the situation from escalating.
Oyebamiji speaks on election result
Despite raising concerns about the alleged attacks, Oyebamiji said he respects the position of the electoral authorities and supports his party’s decision to review the outcome of the election.
He urged APC supporters not to respond to the alleged attacks with violence, encouraging them to remain calm and continue with their normal activities.
“Although we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” Oyebamiji wrote.
The APC candidate also expressed appreciation to voters, campaign volunteers and party members who supported his bid throughout the election campaign.
He said he remained proud of the campaign and maintained that the principles and ideas promoted by his team would continue to influence their efforts toward the development of Osun State.
APC candidate calls for peace
Oyebamiji appealed to APC members and supporters to remain peaceful while staying alert in their various communities during the post-election period.
He also called the attention of the Osun State Government to what he described as an emerging pattern of hostility against members of the opposition.
“I urge the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and arrest this ugly trend without delay,” he said.
Oyebamiji, who is also known by the traditional title Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and holds FCIB and MBA credentials, described the election as only one stage in his broader commitment to the state.
He maintained that efforts aimed at contributing to the progress and development of Osun would continue despite the outcome of the governorship election.
