The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area.
Results from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s IReV portal showed that the Accord Party secured 125 votes at the polling unit, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC), which polled 85 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with five votes, while the African Action Congress (AAC) recorded two votes.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressive Party (YPP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) each secured one vote.
Several other parties, including the Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), recorded no votes.
The election was conducted at Court Hall I, Okuku.
A total of 228 voters were accredited at the polling unit, with 220 valid votes cast and eight ballots rejected.
Oyinlola’s APC Endorsement Falls Short
The result has attracted attention because of Oyinlola’s public support for APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji ahead of the election.
Oyinlola, who served as Osun State governor between 2003 and 2010, had endorsed Oyebamiji over incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Despite the former governor’s backing, however, the APC finished second at the polling unit associated with Oyinlola.
The Accord Party won by a margin of 40 votes, leaving Oyebamiji’s APC behind in the former governor’s home polling unit.
The result is one of several early polling-unit outcomes being monitored as the collation of results from the Osun governorship election continues.
