Popular Anambra comedian and media personality Isaac Nwosu, better known as Aiza Nwosu, has been killed by suspected gunmen in Awka, the state capital.
Nwosu was reportedly shot dead on the night of Sunday, August 30, 2026, alongside another man in separate attacks carried out at two locations within the city.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, August 31. He said the police had commenced an investigation and launched efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
According to the police, three unidentified men travelling in a silver Toyota Corolla attacked Nwosu along S.M. Okeke Street in the Amaikwo area. The suspects later moved to Capital City Road in Amaenyi, where they reportedly shot another man and stole his belongings.
An eyewitness claimed the gunmen had followed Nwosu from his residence before blocking his vehicle and opening fire. He was reportedly found dead inside his car.
The suspects subsequently fled after firing shots into the air, while security operatives later recovered the two bodies and took them to a hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
Police recovered N7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scene. Although the motive remains unclear, residents reportedly raised concerns about possible cult-related links.
Commissioner of Police CP Nnanna Ama condemned the killings and described them as a serious threat to the security of Anambra.
“The Anambra State Police Command has condemned in the strongest terms the gunshot attacks carried out by unidentified gunmen in Awka, the State capital, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, which resulted in the deaths of two persons,” the statement read.
The police have appealed to anyone with useful information about the suspects to come forward as the investigation continues.
