Saudi Arabia has announced that just three African nations are among the 66 countries whose citizens are eligible to apply for its tourist eVisa in 2026.
It reflects that most countries across the continent remain excluded from the streamlined entry programme.
The Kingdom disclosed the updated eligibility list on its official tourism visa portal, where it also detailed the simplified online application process available to travellers from qualifying countries who wish to visit Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia limits African representation to three countries
Among the 66 nations approved for the tourist eVisa programme, Mauritius, Seychelles, and South Africa are the only African countries included.
Nationals of every other African country do not qualify under the current eVisa policy and are instead required to use other visa application procedures before travelling to Saudi Arabia.
The limited representation of African countries has attracted attention, particularly considering that the continent is home to a large Muslim population, with millions making journeys to Saudi Arabia each year for religious activities.
What the Saudi tourist eVisa allows
The Saudi tourist eVisa remains valid for one year from its date of issuance and allows travellers to enter the Kingdom multiple times within that period.
Visa holders are permitted to spend a combined total of up to 90 days in Saudi Arabia over the course of the visa’s validity. Those who qualify can use the eVisa for tourism, attending events, visiting family and relatives, and performing Umrah, the Islamic pilgrimage observed outside the Hajj season.
However, the visa does not permit study-related activities and cannot be used to perform Hajj.
Saudi Arabia said the online application procedure is designed to be fast and user-friendly.
It further described the eVisa as part of its wider strategy to boost international tourism by showcasing the country’s diverse attractions, from the mountainous landscapes of Abha to the beaches along the Red Sea and the sweeping sand dunes of the Empty Quarter.
