Popular Nigerian pastor Jerry Eze has opened up about the difficult experience he faced during the early years of his marriage to his wife, Eno Jerry, revealing that their union was once so troubled that he considered ending it.
Speaking while addressing people at an event, Jerry Eze recalled that marriage was “hell” for him when he newly got married, attributing much of their early conflict to his wife’s struggles with anger.
The pastor recounted an incident during their first week of marriage when he asked Eno a simple question while she was arranging cups and saucers in the kitchen.
According to him, she became angry, swept the items off the surface and gave him a stare that frightened him.
Eze said he immediately retreated to the bedroom, packed his belongings and left the house because he feared the situation could escalate.
He also recalled an incident in London when a disagreement led Eno to leave him alone on a street and return home without him.
He said he had to contact her friend to find out where she was before eventually returning home and changing his flight to leave that night.
According to Eze, the situation became worse after his wife returned to Nigeria, prompting him to tell God that he was ready to end the marriage.
However, he said he received a different perspective during prayer when he believed God told him that marriage was “not a destination, but an assignment,” and that how well he fulfilled that assignment would influence his destiny.
Eze said changing his mindset from expecting love to giving love and refusing to respond to every outburst transformed his approach to the marriage.
He added that Eno is now “one of the sweetest” people he has ever met, stressing that their relationship was not always that way but improved as they both grew.
