Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has congratulated Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as governor of the state, following the governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
In a statement personally signed by him and addressed to the people of Osun and political actors across the state, Aregbesola acknowledged Adeleke’s victory and called for unity after the election.
“I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as the Governor of Osun following the governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026,” Aregbesola wrote.
“Now that the people of Osun have spoken through the ballot, their decision must be respected.”
The former governor also urged Adeleke to regard his victory as an opportunity to bring the state together and focus on governance rather than political divisions.
“I urge him to see the outcome as a renewed mandate to unite the state, deepen development and govern with fairness, humility and a strong sense of responsibility to every citizen, irrespective of political affiliation.”
Aregbesola further appealed to Adeleke to embrace his political opponents and supporters of other parties as he begins another term in office.
He called on the governor to “extend the hand of fellowship to all political tendencies and to make the next chapter of his administration one of greater inclusion, reconciliation and service to all.”
Aregbesola Praises ADC and Najeem Salaam
Aregbesola also commended members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the party’s candidate, Dr Najeem Folasayo Salaam, for their participation in the election.
He praised Salaam for accepting the outcome and placing the interest of Osun State above personal political ambition.
According to Aregbesola, the ADC candidate’s campaign was built around “ideas, competence, character and service to the people.”
He also encouraged ADC supporters not to lose hope following the election result, noting that political participation extends beyond individual electoral contests.
Aregbesola said democracy becomes stronger when political actors compete vigorously, accept electoral outcomes with humility and continue to engage constructively after elections.
He concluded his message with a brief statement reflecting his view of public office and political leadership: “Power is responsibility.”
