SP Ramhan Nansel, the command’s public relations officer, disclosed that the police received a distress call at about 9:21 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, alerting them to the incident.
Three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) were abducted by suspected bandits from their off-campus hostel.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the kidnapping took place along Awe Road, near the university’s temporary campus in Akunza, Lafia.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the attackers initially knocked on the door of the students’ residence before eventually forcing their way into the building.
He added that the hostel is situated in a remote area around the university’s temporary campus, behind a power line and near a bush path leading to Awe town.
The police confirmed that one of the three abducted students has since been rescued, while security operatives have intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the kidnappers.
Nansel stated that criminal gangs operating within the area typically flee through cattle routes and the high-tension power corridor into the surrounding bush after carrying out such attacks.
He further revealed that personnel of the command had already begun pursuing the assailants and advised students against renting accommodation in isolated locations simply because the cost of living there is cheaper.
