Veteran Turkish actor Kadir Inanir, widely regarded as one of Turkey’s most iconic film stars, has passed away at the age of 77 following respiratory complications linked to pneumonia.
The legendary performer, whose remarkable career stretched across more than 50 years, died on Friday at a hospital in Istanbul. He had been receiving medical care after developing severe breathing difficulties.
Turkish media reported that Inanir was hospitalised when his respiratory condition became critical.

Medical teams worked extensively to stabilise him, but reports indicated that his condition continued to worsen despite their efforts.
His passing brings to a close an exceptional career that left an enduring mark on Turkish cinema and inspired generations of movie audiences.
A memorial ceremony will be held at the Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM) in Istanbul before funeral prayers take place at the Barbaros Hayrettin Pasa Mosque.
The events are expected to draw fellow actors, filmmakers, government officials, and thousands of fans who wish to honour his memory and pay their final respects. Born in 1949, Inanir established himself as one of the most accomplished figures in the history of Turkish cinema.
Across his career, he featured in nearly 200 productions, cementing his reputation as one of the nation’s most influential screen legends.
Among his many acclaimed performances, Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalim (The Girl with the Red Scarf) stands out as his most celebrated work. The film is widely recognised by critics and cinema enthusiasts as one of the greatest masterpieces ever made in Turkish cinema.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Inanir received numerous Best Actor awards.
Following the sad news of his death, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan joined millions of mourners in paying tribute to the acclaimed actor.
“I learned with great sorrow of the death of Kadir Inanir, one of the master actors of Turkish cinema,” the president wrote in a condolence message.
Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz described him as one of the unforgettable figures of Turkish cinema, adding that his body of work would continue to inspire generations.
