The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, has spoken out against the killing of the union’s Lagos State Organising Secretary, Comrade Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya.
Reacting to the incident, Akinsanya described the murder as “heinous, barbaric and unacceptable.”
He urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation, apprehend those behind the attack, and ensure they are brought to justice without delay, according to The Nation.
Reports indicate that Comrade Ajiboye was attacked by unknown gunmen on Sunday in Lagos. He was rushed to St. Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island, where he later died from the injuries he sustained.
According to MC Oluomo, Ajiboye’s passing represents a painful loss not only to the union but also to the entire transport community. He noted that the deceased was a committed union official whose dedication and valuable contributions to the development of the organisation would be greatly missed.
He also expressed his sincere condolences to Ajiboye’s family and prayed that Almighty Allah would grant them the fortitude to endure the difficult period.
The NURTW leader further extended his sympathies to members of the Lagos State Council, encouraging them to remain calm, united, and law-abiding while security agencies continue efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
He also reaffirmed that the national leadership of the union would give its full support to law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice is achieved.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed that several suspects have already been arrested in connection with the case as investigations remain ongoing.
He also stated that security has been strengthened across the state and advised residents to continue their daily activities without fear.
