A young pharmacist identified as @says_stephanie on Instagram has warned the public, especially women, against certain everyday habits she believes could contribute to kidney failure.
In a video shared on her official Instagram page, the pharmacist listed five common practices she advised people to avoid if they want to protect their kidneys before the age of 40.
According to her, one major habit is self-medication. She cautioned people against taking drugs for minor health issues without proper medical advice, questioning why many individuals rely on medication without consulting professionals.
Another issue she highlighted was poor water intake. She explained that constant dehydration forces the kidneys to retain toxins and encouraged people to drink more water instead of depending on soft drinks or energy drinks.
The pharmacist also warned against excessive consumption of processed foods and unhealthy snacks.
She advised people to reduce intake of foods such as meat pies and puff-puff while making more effort to prepare balanced and nourishing meals.
She noted that many young people are already dealing with kidney stones and waiting for kidney transplants due to unhealthy lifestyles.
Another habit she condemned was holding in urine for long periods. According to her, people should use the restroom immediately once they feel the urge instead of delaying it.
She also encouraged regular physical activity, explaining that exercise does not necessarily require going to the gym.
She suggested simple activities like dancing or jumping around for a few minutes daily as a way to keep the body active.
The pharmacist concluded by saying that maintaining healthy habits could help preserve kidney health in the long run and thanked viewers for paying attention to her advice.
Her video has since gone viral online, attracting reactions from many Nigerians in the comment section.
