The Lagos State Police Command has launched an intensive operation to track down the gunmen behind the fatal shooting of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Organizing Secretary, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya.
According to The PUNCH Newspaper, the union official was attacked by suspected armed assailants on Ikorodu Road while making his way home after visiting his childhood community in Fadeyi.
Reports revealed that the attackers blocked Ajiboye’s white vehicle before opening fire on it, leaving the windscreen and several other sections of the car riddled with bullet holes.
Early accounts of the incident claimed that Ajiboye and the other occupants of the vehicle survived the shooting despite suffering gunshot injuries. However, he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel at St. Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island.
Speaking on the incident, Lagos Police spokesperson CSP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that security personnel had been stationed at key locations across the state to maintain peace and prevent any disruption of public order as investigations into the killing progress, according to The Vanguard Newspaper.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Lagos NURTW Chairman Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, expressed deep sorrow over Ajiboye’s death.
He remembered the deceased union official as a steadfast loyalist whose commitment and service to the union would remain unforgettable.
