The winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary held in Sokoto State has been publicly announced.
Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been declared the winner of the ADC presidential primary conducted in Sokoto State.
The former PDP presidential candidate reportedly cast his vote in the party’s primary election held in Adamawa State. He praised the democratic process and expressed optimism about the 2027 general elections.
The ADC primary election was conducted across 23 local government areas in Sokoto State, where Atiku Abubakar secured a decisive victory.
According to the state chief returning officer, Prof. Aminu Abubakar, Atiku received a total of 68,823 votes, emerging as the winner by a landslide.
Atiku emerged victorious in the contest, defeating former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as well as Muhammad Hayatuddeen.
Abubakar stated that Amaechi received 292 votes, while Hayatuddeen secured 319 votes. He further disclosed that a total of 69,434 votes were cast during the primary election.
According to Daily Trust, the announcement of the presidential primary result was made on Monday, May 25, 2026, in the presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security operatives, and party stakeholders.
He said: “I therefore hereby declare Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate with the highest number of votes cast in Sokoto.”
Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, along with the ADC governorship candidate in the state, Mannir Dan Iya, were among the key figures present at the event.
Also in attendance were Senatorial aspirants for Sokoto South, Faruk Malami Yabo, as well as the state party chairman, Abdullahi Maigwandu.
Atiku’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer followed the Sokoto ADC’s earlier decision to present him as its sole candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential primary race.
