The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a new feature that enables Nigerians to download their National Identification Number (NIN) slip free of charge through the NINAuth mobile application.
The commission disclosed the update on Thursday, July 2, through its official X account, explaining that the newest version of the NINAuth app now allows users to obtain their NIN slip at no cost.
According to NIMC, the update also delivers enhanced privacy safeguards, strengthened security features, and expanded access to a wider range of integrated government services.
NIMC encouraged individuals who already have the application on their devices to install the latest update in order to enjoy the newly added features. Those yet to download the app were advised to get it from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
According to the commission, the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to improve access to digital identity services by making them easier and more convenient for Nigerians.
The move is also expected to spare users the stress of visiting enrolment centres, waiting in long queues, or paying third-party agents to obtain a copy of their NIN slip.

Mixed reactions trail the NIMC update
The announcement quickly generated widespread discussion on social media, especially because the National Identification Number is a key requirement for accessing several essential services in Nigeria, including banking and SIM card registration.
Despite the excitement surrounding the update, reactions remained mixed. Some Nigerians praised the commission for introducing the feature, while others complained about technical issues with the application and reiterated the need for a permanent plastic national identity card.
@defiwillsx wrote: “You should be all ashamed. Is this the level we are supposed to be. Downloading [expletive]… What happened to us getting a proper National ID Card?”
@PrinceEtake commented: “Please NIMC should stop deceiving Nigerians. There is no option for printing NIN slip in the app. I’m tired of this country called Nigeria.”
@abk_duke complained: “Why can’t I just sign up in peace. Why is the facial recognition not working.”
“Yeah, I downloaded the slip with ease. I had facial recognition issue initially, second trial moving to a natural light space it got verified. Also saw the TAX number section. (Well I know mine before now. It tallied). My question now is, when are we having the plastic i.d?”
