Popular Nigerian medical doctor and health influencer, Egemba Chinonso Fidelis, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, has reacted to the painful passing of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, who reportedly battled stage 4 cancer.
Following the actor’s death, the doctor used the moment to draw attention to the dangers of ignoring the early warning signs of cancer. He explained to Nigerians that the disease often develops quietly in the body and can become far more difficult to treat when detected late.
While speaking, Aproko Doctor shared the emotional story of a young man he had known during his school years. According to him, the individual was eventually diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, but only after he had already begun experiencing severe symptoms of the illness.
The medical doctor further shared the emotional challenges the young man faced during treatment. He revealed that after undergoing chemotherapy, the patient lost his hair and became the subject of ridicule from some people around him.
Aproko Doctor also recalled how the illness took a visible toll on the young man’s body, leaving him noticeably thinner as he silently endured intense pain while continuing with treatment.
Using the story to educate the public, Aproko Doctor outlined four major warning signs of cancer that many people tend to overlook:
- Persistent tiredness or unusual fatigue
- Unexplained weight loss
- Noticeable physical changes linked to illness
- Ongoing pain that does not go away
Aproko Doctor said:
“If this guy had known the signs early enough—that he was always feeling tired, the unexplained weight loss, the pain that will not go away—maybe he would have gone to the hospital sooner.”

Cancer is a silent thief, but it leaves clues.
It’s hard to wrap our heads around the loss of a light like Alex Ekubo. It’s a reminder that this is a conversation we must continue to have.
