Afrobeats star Davido has reacted to Peter Obi’s call for a free and fair governorship election in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s poll.
Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, took to X on Thursday to urge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties and other stakeholders to ensure that the election is conducted transparently.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that the election belongs to the people of Osun and urged all parties involved to respect the electorate’s right to choose their leaders without intimidation or interference.
In his statement, Obi called on INEC, security agencies, political parties, candidates, government institutions, civil society organisations, religious and traditional leaders, the media and other stakeholders to maintain neutrality and professionalism throughout the electoral process.
He wrote:
“Osun belongs to its people. Therefore, I call on the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, political parties, candidates, government institutions, civil society organisations, religious and traditional leaders, the media, and every stakeholder to act with the highest degree of neutrality, professionalism, and restraint.”
Obi further emphasised the need for residents to be allowed to cast their votes freely without intimidation or interference.
Davido subsequently acknowledged the former presidential candidate’s statement on X, responding directly to Obi.
The music star wrote:
“Thank you so much Your Excellency.”
Davido’s response has drawn attention online, particularly as discussions intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election.
