Nollywood actor Adeyemi Okanlawon has opened up about the emotional challenges his late colleague, Alexx Ekubo, endured, reflecting on how he watched people relentlessly criticize the actor despite his genuinely kind personality.
Speaking during a recent episode of the CreativiTea Podcast, Okanlawon described Ekubo as “a very good guy, great guy, beautiful heart,” while expressing disappointment that people often overlook or undervalue those with good intentions.
He also called for greater empathy in the way people interact with others, both on social media and in everyday life.
“Can we just be kind to one another? People are going through stuff. People have made mistakes, whatever the case may be. The kindest thing that you can do is to not engage,” Okanlawon added.
The actor further cautioned against the growing culture of constant criticism and negativity, saying it discourages people from being authentic and creates an unhealthy environment.
According to him, celebrating poor values while attacking individuals who strive to do good ultimately diminishes excellence within society.
“If we’re celebrating corruption and mediocrity on the one hand, and we’re tearing down good and excellent on the other hand, we’re reducing the number of good and the number of excellence… It’s very worrisome,” he said.
