A touching video showing actor IK Ogbonna paying tribute to his longtime friend, Alexx Ekubo, has emerged from the late star’s Service of Songs ceremony.
Several weeks after the entertainment industry was plunged into grief by Ekubo’s death, loved ones gathered in Lagos on Wednesday, June 10, to celebrate his life during a Service of Songs attended by family members, friends, and colleagues from across the industry.
Among the clips making rounds online from the memorial event was a moment involving the late actor’s wife. During the gathering, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo spoke highly of her, while her sister also reflected on her relationship and marriage to Ekubo.
Another deeply moving highlight from the ceremony featured IK Ogbonna as he honored the memory of his departed friend.
While addressing mourners, the actor reflected on one of the last conversations they shared, revealing that Ekubo had reassured him that his support would always remain constant.
He said: “Even in our last conversation, you still told me to always remember that I am here for you, even if no one else is.”
As he continued speaking, Ogbonna opened up about the difficulty of accepting his friend’s absence. He disclosed that he still instinctively reaches for his phone with the urge to call Ekubo, hoping against hope that there might be another chance to hear his voice, even though he knows that possibility no longer exists.
The actor also questioned whether the pain of losing such a close friend would ever truly fade. According to him, the experience has become a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the difficult truths that come with it.
He further recalled how Ekubo consistently encouraged him to strengthen his relationship with God.
Although they occasionally disagreed over the years, Ogbonna emphasized that their friendship was defined far more by joyful memories than by moments of conflict.

The emotional atmosphere intensified as IK Ogbonna delivered his remarks. Fashion designer Yomi Casual, who was also a close friend of the late actor, struggled to contain his emotions during the tribute.
