Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold has disclosed a major consideration that could have influenced his decision to marry fellow singer Simi.
The “High” crooner revealed that genotype compatibility was an important issue for him before he settled down, saying he was concerned about the possibility of having children who could face serious health challenges.
Adekunle Gold made the disclosure during an interview with One 54, where he was asked about his thoughts on genotype and marriage.
‘I wouldn’t have married my wife’
The singer explained that his decision to marry Simi could have been different if she had a genotype he considered incompatible with his.
“I wouldn’t have married my wife if she were SS or AS. She’s AA,” he said.
Adekunle Gold further explained that his position was largely driven by his concern about the wellbeing of any children he and his partner might have.
“I don’t think it makes sense to bring a child into this world and they’d be sickly,” he added.
The singer’s comments have drawn attention online, particularly because genotype compatibility is an issue many couples in Nigeria consider before marriage.
Adekunle Gold and Simi have been married since 2019 and have a daughter together.
