A Nigerian lawyer has weighed in on the saga involving social media activist, Verydarkman and reality star, Phyna.
Recall that tension flared between the aforementioned public figures after Phyna alleged that the reason Verydarkman began holding grudges against her was because she turned down his advances.
Verydarkman, however, denied the claim, daring Phyna to release screenshots of the chat where he made such a statement.
Phyna subsequently released it but VDM tagged the screenshot as AI-generated.
In a recent development, Barrister Stella Justice Nnennaya addressed the matter, answering the widely asked question on whether VDM is wrong for allegedly and bluntly demanding coitus from Phyna.
She wrote:
“Is it a crime for a man to ask an adult lady for sèx?
Let’s settle this matter clearly.
Let me break it down in a very simple way:
No.
It is NOT a crime for an adult man to politely ask an adult woman for sèx.
But listen carefully,
The moment it turns into pressure, persistence, insult, intimidation, or “I must get it by force or by talk,”
Then it stops being a question and starts becoming a problem.
Because in law and in life:
1. Asking is allowed
2.Consent is optional for the other person
3. “No” is a full stop, not a comma
Some people will shout “he asked me for sèx!” like it is a court case on its own.
But the real legal question is not did he asked?
The real question is did he respect the answer?
A man can ask.
A woman can refuse.
End of story.
The crime begins where respect ends.
Simple truth:
If every “no” is obeyed, there will be no case.
Dear Phyna, VDM never committed any crime known to law, because he invited you to the other room.
Dear VDM, go and marry, your wife will not accuse you.
