Following the court marriage of popular content creator Peller and his partner Jarvis, a lawyer identified on X as @Dammi_Esq has broken down the full legal implications of their union, offering Nigerians an insightful look at what marrying under the Act truly means.
According to the lawyer, the marriage is now legally protected and places both parties under a binding framework that goes far beyond traditional or cultural arrangements.
She explained that Peller cannot legally take another wife unless the current marriage is first dissolved by a court, effectively ruling out any form of polygamy under the law.
She further noted that both parties are entitled to equal rights within the marriage and are equally expected to remain faithful to each other.
On the matter of property, she clarified that any asset acquired during the marriage, whether through financial, emotional or other contributions, belongs to both of them, and in the event of a divorce, each party would be entitled to their fair share based on their contributions.
The lawyer also pointed out that their marriage supersedes any cultural or traditional practices that conflict with Nigerian law, and that returning a bride price, a common notion in many Nigerian communities, has no legal effect on a court marriage.
Only a court judgment or death can bring the union to an end.

From today:
1. This marriage is legally protected.
2. Peller cannot legally marry another wife unless this marriage is dissolved by a court.
3. Side chicks are no longer allowed.
4. Even if Peller catches Jarvis red-handed with another man on their matrimonial bed, he still has no right to throw her out of their home.
5. They have equal rights in this marriage.
6. Jarvis is also expected to remain faithful to the marriage.
7. Any property acquired from now (whether through money, effort, emotion or spiritual contribution) belongs to both of them. If they ever divorce, the one who contributed will get their fair share.
8. Their marriage stands above any cultural or traditional practices that go against the law.
9. Getting married does not remove their fundamental human rights.
10. Returning bride price cannot dissolve this marriage. Only the court or dê@țh can end it.
