A video from the burial ceremony of late Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has surfaced online, with his younger sister revealing painful details about the family’s history of loss.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage 4 cancer. He was buried the following day in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, amid tears and tributes from loved ones and colleagues.
Several Nollywood stars attended the burial, including Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Muyideen Oladapo, Kazeem Adeoti, Dele Odule, Mr Latin, Ireti Osayemi, Fathia Balogun and Kolawole Ajeyemi.
Sister Mentions Alleged Family Curse
During the burial service, Ogogo’s younger sister spoke in Yoruba about the series of deaths that had affected their family.
According to her, the family had been battling what she described as a generational curse, known in Yoruba as “Ogun Idile”, from their father’s side in Ilaro.
She clarified that she was not blaming witches or wizards but described the situation as a longstanding family battle.
The woman further disclosed that their mother had given birth to several children, but only a few survived. She also recounted losing her first child after giving birth in their father’s home in Ilaro.
Ogogo Previously Spoke About Family Losses
Ogogo had previously opened up about the family’s history of loss during an interview with Sunday Scoop while celebrating his 60th birthday.
The actor revealed that his mother had 13 children, but only three were alive at the time.
He also disclosed that his twin brother, Kehinde, had died and that his mother had given birth to four sets of twins.
“I just want to thank God for bringing me into this world. Being 60 is a thing of joy for me. For example, my Kehinde (twin) is no more. My mother had four sets of twins. I’m the last set of twins and the only surviving one,” he said.
