The legal team of controversial personality, Vincent Martins Otse, has responded to a call by the Special Assistant to the President on Policy Communication, Bayo Onanuga, urging that legal action be taken against their client over a controversial video linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Following the circulation of the video, the Presidency swiftly dismissed the viral recording, insisting that its content did not originate from the President.
Meanwhile, Bayo Onanuga called on the relevant authorities to take action against individuals responsible for spreading misleading information to Nigerians.
He described the viral recording linked to the President as politically motivated and cautioned against the misuse of digital platforms to disseminate false and misleading content.
In a statement released by Deji Adeyanju & Partners, the law firm representing VDM, the audio clip was said to be manipulated and wrongly linked to their client.
The firm further stated that a simple check of VDM’s verified social media pages would show that he neither produced nor shared the recording in question.
The statement read: “The attention of our client has been drawn to the statement made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, concerning a doctored audio currently circulating online and falsely attributed to our client, Mr. Martins Vincent Otse,”
The lawyers insisted that their client was not linked to the audio and denied allegations that he intentionally shared misleading content. They noted that the incident has further strengthened VDM’s concerns about possible efforts to suppress or discredit him due to his public commentary on national matters.
The legal team also urged security agencies to investigate the source of the audio and ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted.
The Statement added: “We accordingly call on the relevant security agencies to investigate the source and circulation of the doctored audio and ensure that those responsible are identified and dealt with in accordance with the law,”
