The sister-in-law of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo delivered a moving tribute during his Service of Songs held in Lagos on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, painting a tender picture of the man behind the public figure.
Ekubo, who passed away following a battle with kidney cancer, was celebrated by family, friends, and colleagues at the emotional gathering.
Among those who spoke was one of the sisters of his wife, Anwuli, who reflected on the moment the actor first came to their family to ask for her sister’s hand in marriage.
She recalled that from the very beginning, the family sensed he was the right man for their sister.
She described him as an intentional and devoted lover, noting that their mother found genuine comfort and security in him — largely because of how she had observed him treat the people around him. To Ekubo, she explained, family extended far beyond blood relations.
She also spoke of how he had lived a purposeful life, describing him as a man who fulfilled his mission on earth before departing.
In her tribute, she said:
“When Ikenna came forth, we knew he was the one. It was difficult at first because our Awule is a special breed. He was an intentional lover. If you want to experience love, you need to see Ikenna and Anwuli. My mother was safe with him because she had seen how he loved his family. His family is not just people related to him, but people around him. He came and fulfilled his mission; yes, it was short because he returned empty. If you want a crazy lover of Jesus.”
Ekubo’s passing has left a deep void in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with tributes continuing to pour in from fans and colleagues who remember him fondly both for his craft and his character.
