Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has opened up about the point in her career when she began enjoying significant financial rewards from her work in the film industry, despite having spent many years building her name on screen.
The acclaimed box-office actress, who became part of Nollywood in 2001, shared that meaningful financial gains did not arrive as early as many people may assume.
She revealed that it was only around eight years ago that her acting and filmmaking career started yielding substantial income.
Her comments have sparked conversations about the less-publicized challenges that exist behind the glamorous perception of the entertainment world.
During an interview with Nolly TV, Toyin looked back on the early stages of her journey in Nollywood and recounted the struggles many actors endured while trying to stay active in the industry.
According to her, actors earned very little when she first entered the profession and frequently took on roles simply to make ends meet.
Even with the meagre pay, she explained that she and several of her colleagues remained dedicated to the profession because of their passion for acting and their belief that greater opportunities would eventually come.
Sharing her experience, she said: “I just started making money 8 years ago, and I’ve been in the film industry since 2001. Back then, we acted and got peanuts, but we did it just to survive.”
The actress also spoke about her personality and the energy she believes she carries. She described herself as someone who radiates positivity and whose presence naturally attracts people.
Toyin stated that her energy communicates more than words and creates a sense of comfort around her. She added that children are naturally drawn to her, while strangers often feel relaxed and secure in her company.
She stated: “My aura speaks. Energy never lies. Children gravitate towards me, strangers feel at ease, and people find safety in my presence. I am light. I radiate.”
