President Bola Tinubu has submitted a request to the Senate, seeking the screening and confirmation of 15 nominees for appointment to the board of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The move aims to reinforce the country’s human rights protection system.
The letter was read during plenary on Wednesday, April 29, by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to Akpabio, the president is proposing the reconstitution of the commission’s board in line with existing legal provisions, Vanguard reports.
Reports indicate that the nominees were drawn from diverse professional fields, including law and the media.

- Salamatu Hussaina Suleiman – Vice Chairman
- Anthony Ojukwu (SAN) – Executive Secretary
- Mrs Roseline Tasha – Member
- Ambassador Adam Yubak Baku – Member
- ACG Felix Lawrence – Member
- Edmund Chinonye – Member
- Chinonye Obiaku (SAN) – Member
- Oluwakemi Asiwaju Okere-Odo – Member
- Professor Adedeji Ogunji – Member
- Kingsley Chidozie – Member

The appointments come as part of ongoing efforts by the administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
President Tinubu has already indicated his intention to seek re-election, and the country’s human rights record is expected to be a key factor in shaping public perception and electoral prospects.
