Cape Town police have provided a fresh update on the investigation into the death of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams, whose body was discovered at a property on Military Road in Schotsche Kloof on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
Police spokesperson Frederick C. van Wyk confirmed that officers from Cape Town Central Police Station opened an inquest after the 25-year-old footballer’s body was found at about 11:06 a.m.
According to van Wyk, investigators have found no indication that another person was involved in Adams’ death.
“No foul play is suspected. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. Investigations continue,” van Wyk said, according to Briefly.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public to avoid speculation while the inquest is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Adams’ father, Juanito, has shared details about the challenges his son reportedly faced before his death. He said the footballer had been dealing with financial pressure and emotional struggles in the period leading up to the tragedy.
Juanito explained that Adams regularly supported his parents financially and also assisted his girlfriend, Aqueelah Adendorf, and her family, despite having limited experience managing significant earnings.
He further revealed that Adams had argued with Adendorf after they returned from a night out at a nightclub in Athlone. The disagreement reportedly continued at the footballer’s Cape Town apartment, where tensions increased following the arrival of some of his friends.

According to Juanito, his son was also grieving the recent death of his grandmother, Marianna, and was deeply affected by the fatal stabbing of his former teammate, Oshwin Andries.
Hours before he died, Adams reportedly phoned his father from his Bo-Kaap apartment and said he could no longer cope. Juanito rushed from his home in Cloetesville but arrived to find that his son had died by hanging in the bathroom.
Two public memorial services were later held in Adams’ honour at Stellenbosch Town Hall on Thursday, July 17. His family chose not to speak publicly during the memorial events.
