A 71-year-old cleric, Mr Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, has been discovered dead at a hotel in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state, just days before he was due to be installed as the Head Prayer Warrior Father of a Cherubim and Seraphim Church.
Fajana had travelled to the community to participate in a church programme organised by Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo, where the installation ceremony was scheduled to hold.
According to reports, controversy emerged after allegations surfaced that his remains were transferred from the hotel to a mortuary in Ikare-Akoko before the necessary medical certification had been formally secured.
Ondo: Police begin investigation after cleric’s death
In response to concerns expressed by members of the deceased’s family, law enforcement authorities launched an investigation aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the cleric’s death.
Vanguard reported that three individuals have been arrested and are currently assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries as detectives seek to piece together the sequence of events that led to the incident.
Ondo: Police promise thorough probe
Commenting on the development, the Ondo state police command confirmed that an investigation is actively underway.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, stated that detectives were scrutinising every aspect of the case to establish whether any form of foul play occurred. He further assured that any individual found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing as relatives, church members, and associates of the late cleric await additional information regarding the circumstances that led to his death.
