A touching tribute written by Evangelist Mrs Jane Mmerechi Ekubo-Okwaraeke, the mother of late Nollywood star Alexx Ekubo, has emerged online and stirred emotional reactions from many who have come across it.
The moving message was published in the funeral programme pamphlet prepared for the actor, who died at the age of 40 after battling cancer.
Paying tribute to her son, Mrs Ekubo-Okwaraeke portrayed him as a rare and purposeful individual whose presence was a blessing to those around him. She described him as an invaluable gift whose life filled family, friends, and admirers with happiness and pride.
She also spoke about the deep void his passing has left in her life, revealing that she still yearns for the regular conversations, love, guidance, and support they shared.
She wrote: “I am still longing for your calls, chats, care, unconditional love, your gist, your encouragement, your advice, our corporate prayers, and our praise and worship sessions. You were an intentional son, a motivational speaker, and a man full of wisdom.”
Reflecting on his spiritual journey, Alexx Ekubo’s mother highlighted his unwavering commitment to God. She noted that his life revolved around serving the Lord, touching lives positively, showing love to others, and spreading the Christian faith.
She further recalled that the actor, affectionately known as Chief Ikuku Oma, once told her that introducing him to Jesus remained the greatest gift she had ever given him.
“Thank God your life on earth was dedicated to serving God, impacting lives, loving others, and spreading the Gospel. You were never ashamed of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Your love for God was immense. You once told me that knowing Jesus was the greatest gift I ever gave you.”
In the tribute, Mrs Ekubo-Okwaraeke also celebrated her son’s character, describing him as humble, generous, kind-hearted, and full of humour.
According to her, he lived intentionally and left a lasting impression on countless people whose lives he touched.
She further reflected on the strength and wisdom he consistently displayed, recalling how his words often encouraged and sustained her during challenging moments.
“I will surely miss all our chats, our prayers, our praise and worship sessions, your encouragement, your support, your appreciation, your love, and your care. You were always lifting my hands whenever I was weak. You would say, ‘Sweetheart, jide obi gi aka. Remember, God is beautiful in all situations. Be strong and courageous, great woman of God. JEHOVAH BU EZE.’”
Evangelist Mrs Jane Mmerechi Ekubo also expressed appreciation for Alexx Ekubo’s wife, Anwuli, whom she described as an extraordinary woman whose qualities mirrored those of her late husband.
“I sincerely appreciate and thank God for your adorable wife, Nkem Atom, who is amazing and exceptional, just like you.”
Although overwhelmed by grief, the bereaved mother said her faith continues to give her comfort. She expressed confidence that their separation is only temporary and that they would one day reunite on the resurrection morning.
“Please keep interceding for us as you are seated with our Lord Jesus Christ. I will surely miss you dearly, Ikuku Oma. Chai, it is hard. But my consolation is that we shall meet again on the RESURRECTION morning, when we shall part no more.”
