A barber from Calabar has spoken about his relationship with the late Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo.
In what appeared to be an emotional post shared on his Instagram page, he recounted how his encounter with the actor significantly changed the course of his barbering career.
The barber, identified on Instagram as Ola Clovis Abang, revealed that he first came across Alexx Ekubo through the windows of Mt. Hotel. According to him, the actor became the first well-known celebrity to give him an opportunity at a time when many others had turned him down.
He explained that meeting Alexx Ekubo marked a major turning point in his life, especially during a period when he felt overlooked and doubted by many.
Abang revealed that he did not know the actor personally before their meeting, but was welcomed with kindness and respect from the very beginning.
He described the experience as life-changing, noting that it created opportunities he would not have been able to access on his own and helped more people recognise and appreciate his work.
According to him, the impact went beyond career growth, as it also earned him recognition and respect in his hometown as a barber. He added that, more than the fame or attention, what truly stayed with him was the actor’s compassion and generosity.
He recounted that after just their second meeting, he was welcomed into Ekubo’s home, where he received warm hospitality, words of encouragement, and introductions to people who later became some of his most valued clients and supporters, including an individual known as King Khaz.
He expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in his talent during a period when many had written him off, as well as for the support, opportunities, and kindness extended to him. He concluded by saying he would always cherish the light Ekubo brought into his life and admitted that he deeply missed him.
