An Instagram user identified as @nigeriacameras has shared a personal account of his encounters with the late National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) secretary, Toba Ijaya, following the transport union leader’s death.
According to the social media user, he knew Ijaya personally and met him several times around 2001 in Fadeyi and Idi Oro, Mushin, Lagos.
He recalled that Ijaya was a commander of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) during a period marked by violent clashes between the factions led by Gani Adams and Frederick Fasehun.
The Instagram user said he recently saw reports claiming Ijaya was shot and noted that many people had accused the late union leader of being responsible for several killings over the years.
Despite the allegations, the man claimed Ijaya strongly opposed armed robbers, particularly those who killed their victims during robberies.
He recounted witnessing the killing of an alleged criminal known as “Jesu Mushin,” who was reportedly captured and publicly paraded before being killed.
He also shared a personal experience, claiming he was once arrested alongside several others over stolen goods he had purchased.
According to him, Ijaya later released him after he pleaded for mercy. The Instagram user concluded by paying tribute to the late union leader, describing him as a “smiling devil” while wishing him eternal rest.

“In This world we come and go, I know this man One on one, seen him severally in the year 2001 at Fadeyi, Idi oro Mushin, His the Commander of the OPC back then, They use to war almost everyday between Gani Adams group and Fasheun group, very brutal, I saw a post where they said he was shot 😢, Many people said he had also pkaid alot of people, but the little I can tell you about TOBA is that he doesn’t like armed rubbers, expecially the one’s that goes about to steal and pkai person, if Toba catch you , you’re gone, I was live and direkt the day Jesu Mushin was pkaid, they call the criminal Jesu Mushin because Toba’ Men nailed him on the cross, took him around with the cross until he was finished in front of Rainbow Cinema Idi oro..I was caught with some group of boys over stolen goods that I bought, we were more than 6 suspect, but Toba set me free, after I beg him personally, So should I join you guys to call a man that showed me mercy when OPIANKA dey pkufff like mad a bad person??..R.I.P street king OMO TOBA IJAYA 1, I call him the smilling devil 😈 Su rè oooo.”
