Fresh details surrounding the tragic death of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Organizing Secretary, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, have surfaced online, sparking a different narrative to the incident.
An Instagram account identified as Nigeriacameras shared a post on July 21, 2026, featuring what appeared to be a photo of Toba Ijaya in a hospital with blood stains visible on his body.
It was assumed that the photo was taken after the NURTW chieftain was rushed to the hospital to receive urgent medical treatment following the attack carried out by assailants.
According to the caption accompanying the post by Nigeriacameras, there was still some skepticism over whether the photo was genuinely of Toba Ijaya. The poster argued that, based on the image, Ijaya did not appear to be in a serious condition.
The post read: “How true are the pictures of Toba in the hospital when he was shot?
In my opinion, judging from these pictures, he does not appear to be in a serious condition.
Why did they take him to St. Nicholas’s hospital from a private hospital in Idi Araba when he was responding to treatment?”
According to previous reports, Toba Ajiboye passed away on Tuesday, July 14, after suffering gunshot injuries sustained during an attack carried out by unknown gunmen.
The incident was reported to have happened on Sunday night while he was returning from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi.
The attackers reportedly ambushed his vehicle around Ikorodu Road and opened fire, leaving the white car extensively damaged by bullets.
While early reports claimed that Ajiboye and the other passengers in the vehicle had survived the shooting, subsequent updates later confirmed that the NURTW official eventually passed away from the injuries he sustained.
