The late National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) secretary, Toba Ijaya, has been laid to rest in an emotional burial ceremony held on Ereko Street in Fadeyi, Lagos.
Family members, friends, colleagues, and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects, with mourners dressed in black, white, and other colours traditionally worn at Nigerian funerals.
Emotions ran high when Ijaya’s remains arrived in a brown coffin carried by pallbearers from Heavens Funeral Homes. Many attendees were visibly overwhelmed, with some breaking down in tears as they bid him farewell.
A brief funeral service took place at the venue, where Muslim clerics led prayers for the deceased and offered words of comfort to his grieving family and loved ones. The funeral procession continued with mourners walking solemnly ahead of the coffin.
Photos and videos from the burial have since circulated widely on social media, prompting an outpouring of condolences and reactions from Nigerians saddened by Ijaya’s passing.
