Nigerian passport holders have access to about 46 destinations in 2026 without securing a conventional visa before travelling, thanks to a mix of visa-free entry, visa-on-arrival policies and electronic visa (eVisa) programmes.
According to the latest travel advisory for Nigerian travellers, these destinations are spread across West Africa, other parts of the African continent, the Caribbean, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, providing a range of travel options for business, tourism and family visits.
Visa-free access across Africa
West Africa continues to offer the easiest travel opportunities for Nigerians under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Free Movement Protocol. The agreement allows Nigerian citizens to enter the following countries without obtaining a visa:
- Benin
- Burkina Faso
- Côte d’Ivoire
- Ghana
- Guinea
- Guinea-Bissau
- Liberia
- Mali
- Senegal
- Sierra Leone
- Togo
The Caribbean also remains an increasingly attractive destination for Nigerian travellers. Several island nations permit entry without requiring a visa in advance, making them popular choices for vacations and visits to relatives. These countries include:
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Barbados
- Dominica
- Haiti
- St. Kitts and Nevis
- St. Lucia
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines
- Trinidad and Tobago
Travel options in Asia, the Middle East and Oceania
In Asia and the Middle East, Nigerian passport holders can travel to the Maldives without a visa, while Nepal, Cambodia and Timor-Leste provide visas on arrival. Bahrain, meanwhile, is accessible through its electronic visa (eVisa) system.
Oceania also offers several destinations where Nigerians can travel without obtaining a visa before departure. These include:
- Fiji
- Kiribati
- Micronesia
- Samoa
- Vanuatu
In addition, a number of countries have introduced eVisa or visa-on-arrival policies, allowing Nigerian travellers to complete their travel documentation without visiting an embassy before leaving. These destinations are:
- Kenya
- Ethiopia
- Tanzania
- Uganda
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
- Madagascar
- Mozambique
- Suriname
- Bolivia
Kenya, in particular, has adopted an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) system, which has made the country’s entry process considerably more straightforward for eligible visitors.
Although these travel opportunities have expanded, Nigerian passport holders are still required to obtain visas before travelling to many of the world’s most sought-after destinations.
These include the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and most countries within the Schengen Area.
