A football analyst widely recognised for accurately predicting the results of major matches has backed Morocco to eliminate France in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, predicting the tournament favourites will bow out after a tense penalty shootout.
Amadu Raheem Komba Gbandeh shared his forecast ahead of Thursday night’s quarter-final clash at Gillette Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 9pm Nigerian time.
His prediction has quickly generated widespread discussion among football supporters across social media.
Figures published by Squawka show that France head into the contest as overwhelming favourites. Kylian Mbappe netted his seventh goal of the tournament in the Round of 16 victory over Paraguay, with the strike also taking his overall World Cup tally to 19 career goals.
France have maintained a perfect record at this year’s tournament, winning all five of their matches so far. They have also recorded victories in 16 of their last 19 World Cup games, with just one defeat in normal or extra time during that period.
Morocco’s unbeaten run adds pressure
Despite France’s impressive record, Morocco have also enjoyed an outstanding run of form. The Atlas Lions head into the encounter unbeaten in their last 34 matches, a streak that includes five games at the ongoing World Cup.
Their only defeats at the World Cup in recent years came during the 2022 edition, where they were beaten 2-0 by France in the semi-finals before losing 2-1 to Croatia in the third-place play-off.
Notably, this will be the first World Cup meeting between the two nations since that semi-final in 2022, when France secured victory through goals from Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani.
Gbandeh’s prediction for France vs Morocco
In spite of France’s dominant performances throughout the tournament, Gbandeh is convinced Morocco will progress to the next round.
Writing on Facebook, he said: “Morocco VS France! This match will be difficult as both teams have been excellent. I see a match going all the way into extra 30 minutes, a draw in extra time as well, and a penalty shootout where the best team on penalties will win. France will not make it to the next stage.”
Gbandeh has earned an expanding reputation for making accurate predictions in high-profile football fixtures, and his latest forecast has attracted significant attention from supporters eagerly awaiting the outcome of the quarter-final showdown.
