Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, widely recognised by his stage name Baba Ijesha, has become the subject of public discussion after being honoured by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, with a prestigious royal recognition.
During the ceremony, the revered traditional ruler conferred on the actor the chieftaincy title of Baba Awada Konge Oduwa. In addition to the honour, Baba Ijesha also received several luxury gifts, among them a brand-new car.
The actor took to Facebook to celebrate the milestone, sharing a photograph featuring himself, his wife, Afolashade Omiyinka, and the Ooni of Ife.
In appreciation of the recognition, he wrote: “My deepest gratitude to His Imperial Majesty, Ooni of Ife. Baba, thank you for the royal welcome, fatherly love, and the confidence you gave to my wife, Afolashade Omiyinka, and me. For the luxurious gifts you blessed us with and the brand-new car — I am truly humbled.
“As a son of the soil, I’m also honoured by the chieftaincy title Baba Awada Konge Oduwa. Ile Ife, Ile Oodua! ATI IJOYE PELU GBOGBO OMO ILE IFE. THANK YOU, SIR/MA.”
The development has generated widespread reactions on social media. While many users applauded the Ooni for recognising the actor, others questioned the decision to bestow such an honour on him.
