Celebrity fashion designer Yomi Casual has finally spoken publicly following the burial of his close friend, Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.
The renowned designer, who created the outfit worn by the late actor for his final journey, had kept a low profile throughout the funeral ceremonies and the public debate that emerged afterward.
Alexx Ekubo passed away in May after a battle with stage four kidney cancer. He was buried on June 18 in Arochukwu, Abia State.
In a post shared on his Instagram page, Yomi Casual expressed appreciation to everyone who stood by him with prayers, comforting messages, and support during the challenging period. He explained that withdrawing from public attention was something he felt he needed to do.
Reflecting on the painful experience, the fashion entrepreneur said it served as a reminder of how delicate life is and why people should cherish their relationships.
He wrote in part: “To everyone who reached out with prayers, words of comfort, and unwavering support during one of the most difficult seasons of my life, thank you. Your kindness meant more than words can express, and I remain deeply grateful.”
The designer went on to explain the reason behind his temporary absence from the public eye. He also revealed that he was returning to work, assuring supporters that his fashion label would continue producing timeless creations while paying tribute to the cherished memories of those he had lost.
Yomi Casual’s statement comes as Alexx Ekubo’s family continues to face growing controversy surrounding the actor’s passing and burial. In recent days, members of the late actor’s family have publicly raised concerns over the events leading up to his death and the arrangements made for his funeral.
Among the issues they highlighted were allegations that Alexx’s stepmother failed to disclose vital information about his illness and passing. They also claimed she assumed responsibility for organising the burial without involving the actor’s biological mother and other immediate family members.
The relatives further maintained that the burial ceremony did not align with the wishes of Alexx Ekubo’s immediate family.
