Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has promised the families of the abducted students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area that his administration is committed to ensuring their soonest rescue from the captivity.
Governor Makinde made the pledge on Saturday while visiting the Ahoro-Esiele community, where he held discussions with affected families, local leaders, and residents gathered at the premises of L.A. Basic School.
His visit followed heightened concerns surrounding the kidnapping of primary school pupils and their teachers.
Addressing the community, the governor acknowledged the distress experienced by the families, assuring them that the state government stands with them and is doing everything possible to secure the safe release of those abducted.
He said: “I understand the pain and anxiety that many of you are experiencing at this moment. As your government, we share your concerns, and we are fully committed to securing the safe return of our children and their teachers.”
Governor Makinde stated that security operatives and law enforcement leaders had remained fully engaged since the incident, constantly reassessing their rescue plans to improve the chances of a successful operation.
He further revealed that he had been meeting frequently with security commanders, often into the late hours, to monitor developments and strengthen efforts toward securing the safe release of the abducted victims.
He added: “Please believe in me. I have not been sleeping well myself. Together with the service commanders, we meet twice every day, one in the morning and one at night, sometimes until 10 or 11 p.m.,”
The governor explained that the kidnappers remained highly volatile and posed a significant threat, making it necessary for authorities to withhold certain sensitive operational information from the public.
Husband of the Kidnapped Principal Begs the Governor
Professor Wole Alamu, the husband of the abducted school principal and Dean of Renewable Natural Resources at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin Campus, praised the governor’s swift response and encouraged him to maintain ongoing efforts to ensure the victims are freed.
In a related account, Mrs. Funmilayo Ojo said four of her grandchildren, along with her son’s wife, were among those kidnapped. Other residents also noted that the incident was the first of its kind in the community.
Community leaders, speaking on behalf of residents, expressed optimism that the government and security operatives would be able to secure the release of the abducted victims and restore calm to the area.
