Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been cleared by the Federal High Court in Abuja after the defamation case against her was discontinued.
Police Withdraw Charges
Justice Emeka Nwite approved her discharge on Tuesday after the prosecution formally withdrew the case, ending the legal dispute tied to alleged cyberbullying involving Mercy Johnson-Okojie.
The police lawyer, Victor Okoye, told the court that the decision followed instructions from the Inspector-General of Police, noting that both parties had reportedly settled the matter outside court.
Legal Grounds for Decision
According to the prosecution, the application to discontinue the case was filed under Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.
Okorie’s lawyer, Emerie Onyemelukwe, raised no objection, allowing the court to strike out the charges.
What Led to the Case
The actress was earlier charged with cyberstalking and defamation after her arrest in January 2026.
Authorities alleged that she worked with one Ifeoma Mbonu, who is still at large, to publish posts on Instagram and TikTok aimed at Mercy Johnson-Okojie.
The posts reportedly referred to the actress as a “demon,” which became the basis of the complaint.
Bail and Final Resolution
Before the case was dropped, Okorie had been granted bail set at ₦5 million following her re-arraignment on multiple counts linked to cybercrime.
With the charges now withdrawn, the case has officially come to an end.
