Nigerian music star Davido has reaffirmed his support for the abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, remaining firm in his stance despite criticism from former presidential aide Reno Omokri.
The Afrobeats singer made a striking appearance at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert, which was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where he used his platform to draw attention to the situation.
While performing at the globally attended event, Davido stepped on stage in a specially designed black jacket that featured the names of 39 kidnapped schoolchildren and seven teachers who were abducted from the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities in Oyo State.
The reverse side of the jacket carried the inscription “Bring Them Home,” while he paired it with a white shirt underneath that prominently displayed the word “Nigeria.”
Following the gesture, Reno Omokri weighed in, arguing that drawing public attention may not be the most effective approach when dealing with kidnappers and terrorist groups.
He expressed concern that heightened publicity could end up strengthening the resolve of criminal elements rather than compelling them to release their captives.
Citing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Omokri insisted that “publicity is the oxygen of terrorism.”
He further suggested that although Davido’s intentions may have been well-meaning, the public nature of the campaign might unintentionally provide abductors with the attention they seek.
Davido, however, did not directly respond to Omokri’s comments. Instead, his reaction came through a more subtle but firm display. Hours after the criticism surfaced, he posted several photos from the concert on his social media accounts.
Accompanying the images, he simply wrote: “BRING THEM HOME.” He later reshared the posts, further emphasizing his message and making his position unmistakably clear.
