Popular Nigerian singer and actor Banky W has come under criticism after opening up about his relationship with his wife, Adesua Etomi-Wellington.
The disclosure, made during an appearance on The Teju Babyface Show, has sparked mixed reactions online, with many questioning the decision to share such a personal story publicly.
What he revealed
During the interview, Banky W shared that after a period of friendship, Adesua was the one who eventually made a defining statement about their relationship.
He explained that while he was certain she was the one for him early on, she did not initially feel the same way.
His struggles before the relationship
The singer recounted making several attempts to win her over, which did not work at the time.
Reflecting on that period, he said,
“I was like, I’m not talking to her again,” adding that the experience made him rethink his past relationships and wonder if heartbreak was now his own punishment.
Choosing friendship instead
Instead of cutting ties completely, Banky W said he chose to remain friends with her, describing the bond as “one of the best friendships” he had ever experienced.
He noted that maintaining that connection ultimately brought them closer.
Turning to faith
He also spoke about relying on his faith during that time, saying, “I went to God and said, ‘If you want us together, go and tell her,’” while deciding not to bring up the topic again unless she reached the same conclusion herself.
Turning point in the relationship
According to him, the breakthrough came during a phone conversation when Adesua said, “Banky, you know you’re my husband, right?”
Mixed reactions trail interview
Following the revelation, social media users have continued to share divided opinions, with some praising the story and others criticising him for revealing private details.

“Adesua was actually the one who asked me to be her husband. She kept me in the friend zone for a long time, so I stopped pushing and simply prayed to God to touch her heart. After a year and a few months, she finally called me ‘my husband’—and that’s it”
