Afrobeats superstar Davido has reacted to the growing concerns over the state of Nigeria’s healthcare system after comedian and actor Lasisi Elenu made an emotional appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the country’s 36 state governors.
The Grammy-nominated singer shared his reaction on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Davido reposted a video of Lasisi Elenu’s message, which had earlier been featured on Arise TV and subsequently shared by Instagram influencer Tunde Ednut.
Reacting to the footage, the singer wrote:
“Our country is gone! Good one @arisenewsofficial @ojyokpe for always standing by the truth!”
Lasisi Elenu Recalls Mother’s Death
The video that prompted Davido’s reaction was originally shared by Lasisi Elenu, whose real name is Nosa Afolabi, on Instagram on September 7.
In the emotional video, the comedian spoke about his personal experiences with Nigeria’s healthcare system, particularly the loss of his mother in 2022.
He recalled that his mother was taken to several federal hospitals during her final days but was reportedly unable to receive treatment because there were no available beds.
“I shared with you how she was moved from one federal hospital to another. They all said the same thing. It was like a script. No bed space, no bed space, no bed space,” he said.
Elenu also recounted another case involving a family friend who reportedly visited five different federal hospitals before eventually gaining admission.
According to the comedian, making critically ill patients move from one hospital to another, sometimes through heavy traffic, could have serious consequences and potentially cost lives.
Comedian Highlights Other Healthcare Problems
Beyond the issue of hospital bed shortages, Lasisi Elenu raised concerns about what he described as deeper problems within the country’s healthcare sector.
He mentioned challenges including poor data infrastructure, inadequate oxygen supplies, shortages of blood and medication, as well as the continued migration of Nigerian doctors and other medical professionals to other countries.
“Doctors are running every day from the country. Are you people not concerned?” he asked.
The comedian made it clear that his criticism was not directed at every healthcare worker, noting that many medical professionals were working under difficult circumstances that could leave them frustrated and demoralised.
Lasisi Elenu Calls for Genuine Reform
Elenu also urged government officials to focus on meaningful improvements instead of measures he considered cosmetic.
He argued that simply renovating or repainting hospital buildings would not address the fundamental problems affecting healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
“Not decorating one part of the building, painting it blue and white. That’s not what we are talking about,” he said.
Reflecting on his personal experience with the healthcare system, the comedian ended his appeal with an emotional statement about the impact it had on him and his family.
“I pray you will not have a need to be, they have failed me. They have failed my family,” he said.
He accompanied the video with the caption:

Davido’s reaction has since added further attention to Elenu’s appeal, as concerns about healthcare delivery in Nigeria continue to generate public discussion.
