Veteran Nollywood actress Iya Rainbow has addressed the long-standing speculation surrounding Fuji music legend Wasiu Alabi Ajibola, better known as Pasuma.
For many years, a popular belief among fans has been that the late Yoruba actor Baba Agbako was Pasuma’s biological father.
Iya Rainbow, however, has firmly rejected the rumour, stating that the late actor and the Fuji star were never related by blood.
During a recent interview, the veteran actress explained that Pasuma’s late mother was an active participant in the Yoruba film industry while she was alive.
She disclosed that the singer’s mother worked under the late Baba Agbako, adding that this professional association likely gave rise to assumptions that the two families were related.
According to Iya Rainbow, what began as a working relationship was misunderstood by the public and gradually transformed into a false narrative. “I am always surprised whenever I hear people calling the late Baba Agbako Pasuma Wonder’s father,” she said.
She further noted that several veterans in the Yoruba movie industry can confirm that Pasuma’s mother was only one of the actresses who worked with Baba Agbako.
Recalling those years, Iya Rainbow said Pasuma was already grown beyond childhood when his mother introduced him to members of the entertainment industry.
She emphasised that there was never any uncertainty about the Fuji star’s family background, maintaining that the false story has continued to circulate over the years despite the fact that many people who knew the truth have always been aware of the reality.
The veteran actress also observed that people frequently spread information without taking the time to verify whether it is accurate.
Aside from debunking the rumour, Iya Rainbow praised Pasuma for his humility and loyalty.
She described the Fuji icon as a respectful individual who has remained close to those who shared a bond with his late mother.
Despite rising to become one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Fuji musicians, she said he never distanced himself from the people who supported his mother during her lifetime.
“When Pasuma became popular, he chose not to abandon all of us who were close to his mother, including me,” she said. The actress also offered heartfelt prayers for the singer, asking God to bless him with long life, sound health, and continued success.
